Febvruary 22, 2012

Aloha Families,
Today we begin Lent, our six week desert journey to Easter Sunday. The teachers and I will pray for the school community every day as we pray for our own hearts to be changed in this Holy season. Weather you sacrifice in acts of "giving up" something or simply "giving" something of yourself for others in the next six weeks, let us all reflect on the acts and lessons of a great teacher, Christ. Let us be thankful for our faith that is based on our God giving us His only son. Let us reflect and be thankful that Christ gave up His life for us, in order to be our teacher of redemption, of salvation.

Today the school celebrated our traditional Ash Wednesday Mass
.  Each class contributed something in the service.  Our Visiting Team from California and Oahu are here to observe the students and the efforts of our faculty and support staff in what we do with the best intentions in our hearts, that being, the work of educating your children.  The visiting accreditation team is here to help our school in improving the learning process of our students.  We are grateful to have them on campus, as they do this out of their love of Catholic education and want to see us continue to improve as professionals.

At 4 p.m. today, in Room 6, the visiting team will hold a brief meeting to introduce themselves to our school community.  The SHS School Advisory Board will be there and I invite the PTG Exectutive Board to also join the board members.  The team would love to meet you and present an overview of the accreditation process and their role as a visiting team. Space may be limited but I welcome you if you are available to join in on the meeting.

We will have a busy week working with the visiting team.  Next week the tasks of stewardship for our school continues with the preparation of the 40th Annual Bazaar!  We thank you for the food donations you have brought in.  We thank you for the job you each are doing to sell the scrip to our community.  Pray for great weather and wear comfortable shoes as you assist the amazing parents that have been doing all the "behind the scenes" labor to pull off this outstanding community event.

We are in need of plants.  If you have a source, bring them to school or call the office and we may be able to come get plants to sell at the event on March 2 & 3.

We are asking for used books also.  Please go through your bookshelves and donate your books to the Bazaar.  We will be selling them in Room 4 this year.

The organizers, your Bazaar Chairwomen, Lisa Donlon and Ronnie Pietsch and their "shadow" Sheila Long, are absolute superwomen!  They have an amazing crew of committee moms and dads that give without measuring the price of their sweat and effort.  I thank you all.  Again, sell scrip!  The Silent Auction will be classy! The Food Court and Kountry Kitchen will be awesome, the entertainment delightful, and who can say it is not a joy to see the children's faces smiling blissfully while playing the games, visiting the activities in the classrooms and riding the attractions?

This event is for the kids, for the school, and for the good of the whole. I hope you each enjoy the upcoming event as much as I do every year. Thank you all for fulfilling your responsibilities and being a huge part of this magical event.

God is looking down and smiling,
Peace... Susan L. Hendricks, Principal
