Sacred Hearts School Principal: Susan L. Hendricks
Susan L Hendricks grew up in a military family of nine, living in eight states before settleing in Southern Californina as a senior in high school Her college undergraduate and graduate work was completed at UCSD and USB (University of California at San Diego and Berkeley.) She finished her eleventh year as a classroom teacher when the opportunity to become the school administrator was offered to her. This is her seventh year as the Sacred Hearts school principal. Relocation to Maui 13 years ago, she began teaching middle school. Therefs no place she would rather be than here, navigating the collective vision of academic excellence with the teachers, students and parents of Sacred Hearts School. She welcomes you to the 148th year of education at Sacred Hearts School. Imua!

VANESSA PERRY
Sacred Hearts School ELC Director: Vanessa Perry
Mrs. Perry was born and raised on Oahu. In 1973, she graduated from Farrington High Schooland started her first job as a preschool teacherfs aid at the gFamily Development Centerh in Honolulu. She received her first certification for CDA (Childrenf Development Association) in 1975 and her second certification in 2000. She has been teaching a total of 23 years. She has two children, one at Lahainaluna High School and one at University of Hawaii at Hilo. Vanessa has been dancing hula for 48 years and has taught hula across the country for conventions. She has choreographed several luau shows including Sheraton, Hyatt, and Royal Lahaina and also instructed hula for AECG. Her goals include continuing her education in Early Childhood Development and Hawaiian Studies.

STEPHANIE ASUNCION
Sacred Hearts School ELC: Stephanie Asuncion
Stephanie was born and raised right here on the West Side of Maui. She graduated from Lahainaluna in 1992 and attended Maui Community college. She earned an Associates in Science degree in Human Services with an emphasis in early childhood education. She has been working with children for 11 years and she is very excited to be part of the Sacred Hearts School Ohana. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her children and walking her dog.

AILENE SCHWARZLOW
Sacred Hearts School ELC: Ailene Schwarzlow
Ailene was born and raised on Oahu and graduated from Waifanae High School. She attended and graduated from the University of Hawaii at Manoa obtaining her Masterfs Degree in Social Work. This is Ailenefs 4th year working at Sacred Hearts School Early Learning Center. She has two sons: Joshua in the 5th grade and Noah in Kindergarten. She is looking forward to an exciting and memorable year at Sacred Hearts School.

STACY DAGUPION
Sacred Hearts School ELC: Stacy Dagupion
Born and raised on this beautiful island of Maui and residing in Lahaina, Stacy is the youngest child from a family of 10 (6 brothers and 3 sisters.) She has been working as a sales supervisor at Crazy Shirts and still works there part time. This is her first year here as a Teacherfs Aide at the Early Learning Center. She hopes the experience will help her to pursue her plans of obtaining a teaching degree. Stacy has 3 children. She enjoys spending time with her family (her WHOLE family) whenever they can get together.


Kindergarten

KADEE MCKINNEY
Sacred Hearts School Kindergarten: Kathryn Mckinney
Kadee was born in sunny San Diego and was raised in Redlands, CA. She graduated in 2002 from California Baptist University with a Bachelorfs Degree in Liberal Studies. She then moved back to San Diego to complete her Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and Masters in Education at Chapman University. Kadee has worked with various grade levels and has enjoyed every minute of it but feels Kindergarten in her true calling. In her spare time, she enjoys eating out and relaxing at the beach with her husband, Dan, and their one year old daughter, Reece. She feels so blessed to be here at Sacred Hearts School and looks forward to the upcoming year as the Kindergarten teacher.

LARA TAAMU
Sacred Hearts School Kindergarten Aid: Lara Taamu
Born in Canada, Lara moved to Oahu at age 10 and attended St. Francis High School in Manoa Valley. Lara attended University of Toronto and received a B.A. in Environmental Studies and Geography. Lara worked as an Environmental Planner in Honolulu, Guam and Saipan for seven years. She changed professions and started teaching 9th grade Geography at Our Lady of Guam Academy. Lara moved to Maui in 2002 with her husband and 4 sons. Lara and her 3 youngest sons (Noah, Peter and Tygris) are looking forward to many cherished years at Sacred Hearts. Lara is the Kindergarten teacherfs aide this year.


Elementary

1st Grade
DANA KIRBY
Sacred Hearts School 1st Grade: Dana Kirby
Dana was born in South Florida. She attended Catholic School from Kindergarten through 12 grade. She then went on to the University of florida where she received a Bachelor of Science degree and then a Masters Degree in Elementary Education form Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida. Immediately following graduation in 1999, she began teaching 4th grade at St. James Cathedral School in Orlando, Florida. She continued to teach up until her son, Tyler, was born in March 2002. Dana, her husband Scott and son Tyler then moved to beautiful Maui one year later. This is her fourth group of First Graders at Sacred Hears School. She truly enjoys teaching the primary aged child and feels extra blessed to be at a Catholic School where her own roots are.

JENNIFER WISEMAN
Sacred Hearts School 1st Grade Aid: Jennifer Wiseman
Although raised as an army brat, she has spent the past 30 years here on Maui. She has an Associate of Arts degree and has spent most of her Maui life on the water. Jennifer spent years as a charter boat captain. She has crossed the Pacific Ocean several times as a delivery crew. She coaches swimming and she is the surf coach for the Seabury High School Surf Team for the MIL. She and her husband, rich, have owned and operated a charter boat business from 1988 to 2006. They have 2 sons, Garret and Rhett. Jennifer has always loved being around children. She is thrilled to be a part of the Sacred Hearts ohana.


2nd Grade
TONATA LOLESIO
Sacred Hearts School 2nd Grade: Tonata Lolesio
She was born and raised in the Kingdom of Tonga and at age five moved to Hawaii with her parents. She began her education at King Kamehameha III Elementary School and graduated with the calss of 1994 from Lahainaluna High School. She is the eldest in the family and the first to attend MCC where she received an Associates of Arts degree. She graduated from the University of Hawaii at Manoa with a Bachelor of Arts in English and a minor in Speech. Tonata completed her Masters in Elementary Education this past April. She is involved with the Tongan and Maria Lanakila Youth Groups. As an educator, she hopes to inspire an appreciation of learning.

KRISTA SCHUMACHER
Sacred Hearts School 3rd Grade: Krista Schumacher
Krista was born and raised in a small town just north of Minneapolis, Minnesota. She graduated from St. Cloud State University with a B.S. in Elementary Education specializing in Language Arts. She spent the first six months after graduating living and working in Skagway, AK. There she worked for a non-profit early education center while enjoying the beauty of Alaska. Traveling has become a passion for Krista and she has set a goal to experience everything and everywhere! Other things that she enjoys in her free time are hiking and camping in the great outdoors, yoga/pilates, running/jogging, reading, and pretty much anything on Maui! Krista is married to Nick and feels very blessed to be a part of Sacred Hearts School!

4th Grade
ASHLEY ANDERSON
Sacred Hearts School 4th Grade: Ashley Anderson
Ashley moved to Maui from Park City, Utah, 12 years ago. While she only meant to stay for one year, she fell in love with Maui and never left. Ashley has been blessed with a wonderful husband and a rewarding career at this very special school. Ashley is very passionate about the performing arts. She has danced professionally with Ballet West in Salt Lake City, Utah, has participated in many local theater productions here on Maui, and loves to play the piano.
Currently, she is pursuing her Masterfs Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Phoenix. Shefs finding that her students love that their teacher has homework, too! Ashley feels so blessed to be a part of the Sacred Hearts School Ohana.

5th Grade
BEAU EWAN
Sacred Hearts School 5th Grade: Beau Ewan
Mr. Ewan was born and raised in a small town along the New Jersey shore. He is a graduate of Flagler College which is located in St. Augustine, Florida. At Flagler, Mr. Ewan received his B.A. in English Literature and worked as a tutor at the college writing center. Upon graduation, Mr. Ewan spent a year substituting various grade levels in North Florida and received his Florida State Certification. Mr. Ewan had always dreamed of living in Hawaii so he moved to Maui in August of 2005 to teach fifth grade at The West Maui Carden Academy. He loves surfing, snowboarding, hiking and being outdoors. He has surfed throughout Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Puerto Rico. Mr. Ewan is also a writer and has been published in Surfing, Surfer, Tracks, The Surferfs Path, and is a regular contributor to Maui Time Weekly. He loves teaching and feels truly blessed to be part of the Sacred Hearts Ohana.

6th Grade
PATTY WURST
Sacred Hearts School 6th Grade: Patty Wurst
Although born in Honolulu, she was raised in Southern California. After returning to Hawaii to be with her family on Maui, she graduated from Chaminade University in Honolulu. This is her 10th year at Sacred Hearts School after teaching for eight years in the public school system. She enjoys teaching junior high school, in particular the Social Sciences. She lives upcountry with her son, husband, and dog. Mrs. Wurst enjoys traveling. Her academic goal for this yearfs social studies program is to have more students participate in History Day at the State and National Level, to increase geographic literacy, and to take as many students as possible to Washington D.C. for the class field trip in October 2008.

7th Grade
TINA WEBSTER
Sacred Hearts School 7th Grade: Tina Webster
Miss Webster was born in Iowa but spent most of her life in Overland Park, Kansas. She attended both the University of Kansas and Kansas State University, earning her BA in elementary Education in 1994. She earned her Masters in Education from St. Maryfs College in 1996. Tina has taught everything from 1st through 8th grade, and although it is her first year at Sacred Hearts School, it is her 16th year doing what she loves most teaching children. In her free time, she enjoys running, scuba diving, watching KU Jayhawk Basketball, and exploring all the exciting hikes and adventures the island has to offer. She is thrilled to be joining the Sacred Hearts Ohana and looks forward to a year of spiritual and academic growth.

8th Grade
MARYANNA WALDROP
Sacred Hearts School 8th Grade: MaryAnna Waldrop Beautiful Makana
Even though Mrs. Waldrop was born and raised on a cotton farm in New Mexico, she was passionate about sailing from the age of 14. After receiving her BA in Psychology and Special Education and an MA in Reading from Whittier College, where she also taught, she spent seven years sailing throughout the Pacific on her 30f sailboat, gFinesseh. For the last eight years, she has been teaching middle school literature, English and religion at Sacred Hearts School and she continues to be passionate about how students learn and what they learn. When shefs not at school, Mrs. Waldrop facilitates labyrinth walks, hikes, travels (first choice always by sailboat), and stays outside as much as possible with her husband, Randy, Makana, her Golden Retriever, greets everybody everyday and is so thankful she can be a part of the Sacred Hearts School Ohana for her 4th year.

Science Lab
EDWARD MAHONEY
Sacred Hearts School Science Lab: Edward Mahoney
Mr. Mahoney was born in Dublin, Ireland and raised in New Jersey. At age 7, he witnessed Sputnik, the first satellite and turned his treehouse into an observatory. After graduation from Christian Brothers Academy, he served as a medic in the United States Army. Eddie studied Psychology and Special Education at Monmouth University and received a Master of Science degree in Education, state certification as a Learning Disabilities Teacher Consultant and Classroom Teacher of the Handicapped. He moved to Hawaii, received a Masters Degree in Educational Psychology at University of Hawaii. He is currently the Director of Astronomy at the Hyatt Regency Maui, a Solar System Ambassador for NASAfs Jet Propulsion Laboratory and Sacred Hearts Schoolfs Science Enrichment Teacher.

P.E./Computer
TOM POPDAN
Sacred Hearts School P.E./Computer: Tom Popdan
Coach Tom is originally from the Philadelphia area. He attended Villanova University on a swimming scholarship. There he received a B.S. in Business and Marketing. He has been a swim coach for more than 20 years coaching such teams as Temple University, University of Virginia, and Mission Bay. He successfully swam the English Channel. This is his eleventh year teaching P.E. and computer classes at Sacred Hearts School. He is in his 14th year coaching Lahainaluna High School Swim Team and Lahaina Swim Club where he has won 9 state titles.

Music/Drama
LORI ULMAN
Sacred Hearts School Music/Drama: Lori Ulman
Mrs. Ulman is a native Michigander who earned her B.A. with a major in Music from Wayne State University in Detroit. She has certificates of completion in Drama from regional performing arts theaters as well as continuing education through seminars and workshops in liturgical music. Mrs. Ulmanfs instructional seminars also include ministering a youth choir, instructing acting techniques and directing plays. Her performing experiences include tours of Europe with the Detroit Archdiocesan Chorus and cantor for Pope John Paul IIfs visit to Detroit. She is presently one of the cantors at Maria Lanakila and occasionally subs as music minister at Holy Innocents Episcopal church. Her interests include golfing, antiques, traveling and watching the beautiful Maui sunsets with her husband of 25 years.

Hawaiiana
KRISTEN KA'AUWAI
Sacred Hearts School Hawaiiana: Kristen Kaauwai
Kumu Kafauwai grew up in a Northern California town named Fremont. In that town there is one of Californiafs many missions named Mission San Jose. She spent her summers in Honolulu with her Gramma or in Anahola, KauafI with her aunties and uncles. There she spent her days playing in the river and ocean and living Hawaiian culture. She graduated from Mission San Jose High School and attended three different colleges to obtain her Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology and her teaching credentials from California State University, Hayward. Kristen met her husband on the swim team in college and they have four children, two boys and two girls. The two oldest graduated from Sacred Hearts School, as well as, Kamehameha Schools Maui. They will both be attending college this year as a sophomore and freshman. Her youngest son attended Sacred Hearts School as a 5th grader before moving up to Kamehameha Schools for middle school. Her youngest daughter attends Sacred Hearts and is in Mrs. Waldropfs 8th grade class year. Kristen moved her family to Maui 6 years ago to enrich them in their Hawaiian culture and language, something that she experienced while spending summers in Hawaifi, and will also share that with all of her students here at Sacred Hearts.

Computer
WENDY LAUREL-SHEVELAND
Wendy grew up in Maryland but moved to Berkeley, California before high school. She graduated from University of California at Berkeley with a B.A. in Economics. She then attended Stanford Law School and received her Juris Doctrate. After law school, Wendy moved to Oahu to law clerk for a federal judge and then went to work as an attorney on Kauai. On Kauai, besides working as an attorney, Wendy taught Economics at Kauai Community College as well as teaching on-line law classes for University of Phoenix. In 1998, Wendy with her son Nalu moved to Maui and went to work for the Law Offices of Joy Yanagida, where she is presently of counsel. Six years ago, she started taking photography classes. She has taken four photography courses at Maui Community College, as well as completing a one year course from the New York Institute of Photography, and online photography courses from Academy of Arts University in San Francisco, as well as various seminars. Wendy now works as a photographer part-time, taking clients for maternity, baby, child, and family portrait sessions. Her work can be viewed at wendylaurel.com. Wendy has four children, three of whom are Sacred Hearts students.
