The Cheetah Alliance charter members are now in the 5th grade. Mr. Kent’s class performs a rap rendition of a story the students read during the semester called “The Mouse and the Motorcycle” using Vanilla Ice’s “Ice Ice Baby”.

When I went down to the 3rd grade at Sacred Hearts to do a video on a presentation, the moment began with the world MAGIC. Author Ruth A. Pavilonis donated 30 books to the class and her close friend, Mrs. Waldrop decided where they would go. Once again, the magic found my camera and the music found the magic.

Marty from Ecycling from the County of Maui paid a visit to the classroom of Sacred Hearts eighth grade and provided an eye-opening presentation on the amount of trash that Maui produces in one day and the business of refurbishing electronic equipment to give to non-profit organizations.

The students of West Maui have challenged the adults for Good! Our island paradise is at risk from isolation. We must be prepared for what may befall us in as little as three years. The students have already started . . . now it’s time for the adults to stop worrying about money we can’t eat and do something that will ensure the future of all. On Cinco de Mayo I was invited to attend the annual Martin Luther King Peace Poem awards in Pukalani and then afterwards to go to Maui Cultural Lands to pick lei for the May Day Celebration. The magic swirling around in the clouds on the hill danced with the windmills. Then the children assembled to make lei for the program.

The morning started with rain. The quad was empty and Jesus had a little trouble assembling the students and teachers of Sacred Hearts School to do their morning Prayer Postures. When it was time to being the rain had stopped and as Jesus sang his way through the exercises, the clouds began to clear and the sun shined through.

Sacred Hearts School will hold its annual Live and Silent Auction and dinner on April 17th, 2010 at the Historic Pioneer Inn in Lahaina. Tickets are $60. Our heartfelt mahalo goes out to all the businesses and loving residents of Lahaina who have generously contributed to make a better life for our students.
